Russell P. Pompei, 90, of Benton, Pa formerly of Quakertown died February 8, 2009 . He was the husband of the late Marie E. (Fachet) Pompei. Born in Perkasie he was the son of the late Fierento & Marie Pompei. He was a presser for 42 years for Wismer Clothing of Silverdale. Russell was a 1998 Pennridge-Quakertown Area Sports hall of fame inductee. He was a member of the Perkasie Legion Baseball Team that captured the 1933 state championship. He continued playing on community baseball teams including Perkasie, North Pennridge, VFW, Tylersport and Quakertown leagues. Russell was instrumental in the Connie Mack Youth Program since its conception where he managed the team for 24 years. He also coached and umpired for Quakertown Little League. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II and a member of the Forrest Lodge VFW Post 245 of Sellersville. He was also a member of St. Isidore's Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He is survived by a daughter Nancy Walden and her husband Willie of Galloway, NJ. Two grandchildren Donald Hoffert, Jr. and his wife Melissa of Quakertown and Amy Warnig and her husband Christopher of Benton. Two great grandchildren Christopher Donald Warnig and Tara Marie Warnig. Two sisters Susie Slotter of Richlandtown and Marie Fusco of Perkasie. Services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the C. R. Strunk Funeral Home, Inc.
