Russell G. High

Russell G. High (87) formerly of Coopersburg, died peacefully at Rockhill Mennonite Community (Sellersville, Pa) on September 28, 2011. He was born on August 6, 1924 to Aaron & Alice (George) High in Bedminster Twp., Bucks County. Russell was preceded in death by brothers; Harry, Isaac, Wilmer, Edward, Paul, and Dale, and sisters; Dorothy, Mabel Bissey and Ruth Myers. On November 28, 1948 he married Dorothy M. (Bauman) High who preceded him in death in 2005. Russell loved to take care of God's earth and especially enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden. A member of West Swamp Mennonite Church, Quakertown, Pa., he was a former Sunday School teacher, superintendent, youth leader, custodian for 19 years and kitchen committee member. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran serving during WWII. In his early years Russell worked at A&P (Quakertown) and as a mail carrier. Later employment was by M.W.Wood Catering as a Food Service Manager for 23 years before retiring from Hatfield Packing Company in 1986. He is survived by his children Glenn (Judy) High, Coopersburg, PA.; Brenda (Tim) Byers, Bluffton, OH; Doreen (Gary) Detweiler, Telford, PA. Ten grandchildren: Marsha High, Aaron (Amanda) High, Pov (Dale) Loch, Cara (John) Riley, Heather (Brent) Clum, Adam (Lisa) Byers, Justin (Karen) Byers, Jared (Amy) Byers, Ryan (Jen) Detweiler and Kevin Detweiler. Seven great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday October 15, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at West Swamp Mennonite Church 2501 Allentown Rd . Quakertown, PA 18951.
