Robert W. Newhard

Robert W. Newhard, of Quakertown died January 29, 2017 in Bethlehem, PA after a brief illness. Born August 10, 1929 he was a son of Lamonte B. and Helen (Rohrbach) Newhard. He was predeceased by his mother Elsie (Koons) Newhard in 1931. He was the beloved husband of Betty (Luckey) Newhard for 34 years. Bob was a 1947 graduate of Quakertown High School. He was first employed by Gotham Instrument Company of New York in Perkasie. He proudly served in the United States Air Force 1948-1952. He was a staff sergeant in electrical maintenance of aircraft in Greenland. After leaving the military he worked for several helicopter companies while taking classes in radio telegraph communication. In 1958 he entered his lifetime career with General Electric Aerospace as an Instrumentation Specialist, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, a life member of the American Legion Post 242, and a member of the Lions Club of Quakertown for 30 years. He was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of East Swamp Church serving on several committees, and with his wife, hosted a small group Bible study in their home. Bob loved fishing and hunting in the Poconos as a young man, and traveling with his wife on trips to Wyoming, Montana, Minnesota, and the East Coast from Maine to Florida. He enjoyed teaching his great grandchildren gardening and building, and completed many home renovation projects throughout his lifetime. He also loved music and raising orchids. Bob adored his family and is survived by his daughters Karen Harrington, Florida; Sharen (Michael) Charloff, South Carolina; Donna (Roger) Kneezel, Doylestown; Beverly Newhard, Sellersville; step-daughters Cynthia Haenn, Breinigsville; and Kristin Swanson, Mohnton. He leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; a sister Audrey Shelly, Allentown; a sister-in-law Arlene Price (Jack Smith); five nieces and nephews, and loving extended family in the Allentown area. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in East Swamp Church 2405 E. Swamp Rd. Quakertown, PA 18951. Calling hours will begin at 9:30 A.M.
