Raymond A. Riu

Raymond A. Riu, 86 of Coopersburg passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest after a prolonged illness. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 58 years, Shirley A. Riu. Born on January 16, 1929 in Quakertown, he was a son of the late Marcello and Esther Riu and a lifelong resident of Coopersburg. Raymonds family founded the Coopersburg Granite Company in 1923 which he continued to run until the time of his passing. Raymond graduated from Coopersburg High School and served in the United States Navy on the USS Capricornus during the Korean Conflict. During and after high school he played baseball, even participating in reunions with the team calling themselves the "Whiz Kids". He enjoyed fishing and snow skiing, and was active his entire life walking several miles a day until the time of his illness. He was known by all as a kind, patient and compassionate man who loved spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Johns UCC, Coopersburg. He is survived by a daughter Sharon (and husband Brian) grandchildren Stefanie and Andrew, brother retired Reverend Marshall (Jack) Riu, sister Lita (and husband Bernie) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his sister Marilyn (and husband Richard). Services will be held Monday June 22nd at 11:00 A.M. in St Johns UCC 538 Thomas St. Coopersburg, Pa 18036. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Coopersburg. Arrangements by C.R. Strunk Funeral Home, Inc.,(www.crstrunk.com) Quakertown.
