Richard C. Musselman, PhD., 78, died Wednesday August 17th, 2011 in Christiana Care Hospital, Newark DE. Richard married Mary Ellen (Koder) Musselman in December 1951. Born in Quakertown, PA he was the son of the late Reynold and Edna (Hope) Musselman. He grew up in Quakertown with his two brothers Bill, Jerome and sister Nancy and graduated from Quakertown High School in 1950. As a star football player and athlete, he received a scholarship to Lebanon Valley College in 1950, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1954. In 1960, a Masters in Science from Oregon State University; and a PhD in school administration from Nova University in Florida. In 1954 upon receiving his teaching certificate, he moved to Newark, Delaware to begin teaching biology at Newark High School. Richard always said the twenty six years of teaching and coaching football were his greatest source of satisfaction during his more than three decades in education. He was inducted into the Quakertown/Pennridge Sports Hall of Fame. Upon retiring from education, Richard worked for Prudential Real Estate of Newark. For those who knew Richard, he will always be known for his love of family, gardening, travel, music and education. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons Daniel and wife Angel Musselman of Hockessin, DE and Wayne R. and wife Cathie of Bellingham, WA. A brother William Musselman and wife Margie of Telford, PA; a sister Nancy Godwin and husband Thurman of CA and a sister-in-law Mary Musselman of Quakertown PA. Four grandchildren Ian, Patrick, Katelyn and Nicole; great granddaughter Annette. Predeceased by a brother Jerome. Services will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the C. R.
