In 1947 Martha and her husband Joseph (deceased) purchased Stoney Point Store, a local landmark business first named in 1830. Martha operated the country-style general store full time, open every day for more than 50 years, while raising her seven children in the same large stone building. She was known for making the best hoagies and sandwiches in the area. Martha loved her customers and always wanted to satisfy their needs, supplying everything from auto and home supplies to toys and clothing, along with a wide selection of groceries. She enjoyed meeting the children and would give them candy from her well-stocked candy shelves. Martha would often help her customers in need by cooking their turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas and other meals at various times throughout the year. She never wanted anyone to go hungry and would extend credit or simply give groceries to them for free. Martha loved animals and would feed all the stray cats and kittens that would appear at her back door. She also loved the many dogs and other animals that her children brought home over the years. She loved flowers and every year planted a large flower bed of Zinnias her favorite that everyone enjoyed picking. Her favorite color was pink. Martha always looked forward to weddings, birthdays and celebrations in general as she enjoyed listening to the music, dancing, and talking and laughing with people.
