Marilynn Ruth Schanely, 75, of Allentown, formerly of Quakertown, died December 25, 2009 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was the wife of the late Russell Schanely. Born in Andreas, PA on June 19, 1934, Marilynn was the daughter of the late Claude, Sr. and Myrtle (Bitting) Kershner. She was a 1951 graduate of Lehighton High School and continued her education at Kutztown State Teachers College, receiving a BS in Library Science in 1955; in 1974 she received her Masters in Library Science from Kutztown. Marilynn began her career as a librarian and English teacher with Quakertown Community School District in 1955, and she worked at the junior high school until 1962. She completed her teaching career in June, 1991, serving twenty-five years as librarian at Central Junior High School in Perkasie. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Perkiomen Chapter #318, and she served as Worthy Matron, 1977-78, and secretary, 1983-1997. She was also a member of the American Legion, Post #242, for over fifty years, serving as sergeant at arms. She was also a member of the Montgomery Co. 8/40 organization. Marilynn was a member of Quakertown's Women's Club for more than twenty-five years; she served as chaplain as well as on many other committees. She also was a member of Quakertown's AARP and Senior Citizens. Marilyn also volunteered with Bucks County's Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Quakertown, serving a term as president of the church council, teaching Sunday School, and serving many other committees. Marilynn is survived by two daughters, Laurie, wife of Steve Hanchuruck, of Branford, CT and Dr. Maribeth, wife of Laurence Murphy, of Traralgon, Victoria, Australia; five grandchildren - Katie, Timothy, Molly, Thomas and Christopher, a sister Jeanette Kohlbrenner of the Villages, FL, and a brother Neil Kershner of Jim Thorpe. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 19 S. 10th St., Quakertown, PA 18951. The family will greet relatives and friends in the church's social hall after the service. Arrangements are in the care of the C. R. Strunk Funeral Home, Inc. (www.crstrunk.com) Quakertown.
