Kathleen Olive (Duggan) Applebach, a recent resident of Life Quest Nursing Center in Quakertown, died on Sunday January 22, 2012 at the age of 84. Born in England, she was a daughter of the late Edith Mae and Thomas Duggan, Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire, England. She was the widow of Arlington L.Applebach who she met in Droitwich while he was in training there with an artillery unit during WWII. After 18 months separation while he was in Europe, they were married in Droitwich on September 22, 1945. Kathleen travelled to this country aboard the Queen Mary in 1946 as one of the thousands of war brides after the war, arriving in New York. In an interview with the Perkasie Herald after her arrival, she said "folks here are very like British folks, kindly, helpful and quite considerate." They settled in Perkasie and later in Haycock Township, PA.Sadly, Arlington passed away in 1979 after 34 years of marriage. She attended school in England and worked in various hotels as a domestic until her arrival here in March 1946. She worked at Best Made Hosiery, Hubberts Ball Co.and EMICO,Inc., retiring in 1988. She is survived by daughter Kay (Applebach), wife of Richard Bader, of Mohrsville Berks County, and a son Thomas, and his wife Laura of Haycock Township, Bucks County. She is also survived by grandson Gregory Applebach of Washington D.C.and granddaughter Lindsay Applebach at home. She is also survived by her sisters Edna and Janet and a brother Fred, along with many nieces and nephews throughout England. She was predeceased in 1947 by an infant daughter Claire Lorraine Applebach. She was predeceased by three sisters, Gladys, Betty and Freda who all lived in England. The family would like to thank the employees of Life Quest for the wonderful care and affection they gave our mom during the last months of her life. Thank you so very much. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice. The C. R. Strunk Funeral Home, Inc. 821 W.
