John T. Schmitt, 84 of Quakertown formerly of Philadelphia, known to many as Jack or J. T. died Saturday October 17, 2009 in his home. He was the husband of Betty (Bradford) Schmitt. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last May. Born in Philadelphia he was the son of the late John Anthony and Violet (Beggs) Schmitt. A chemical engineer, he retired in 1980 as a crude oil supervisor from Arco Corporate Offices in Philadelphia. He was a 1943 graduate of Northeast High School in Philadelphia and Drexel University. Jack was a member of the Greene St. Friends Meeting in Philadelphia and a long time Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Judith Yeager and husband Joseph, John and wife Sue, Jeffrey and wife Barbara, Stephen and wife Francine, Janet Davis and husband Peter and Holly Schmitt and husband John Snyder. 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. A daughter in law Carol. He was predeceased by a son Barry. He was our guide, philosopher, and friend, with many ideas he set the trend. By his wishes, private services will be held for the family.
