John A. Mcgann

John Arthur McGann, 81, of Montclair, NJ formerly of North Attleboro, MA, Washington DC,and New York City, died April 13, 2015 in his home. He was the husband of Dorothy Longacre Grant McGann. They were married 42 years on March 23, 2015. Born in North Attleboro, MA he was the son of the late James & Marion (Hotchkiss) McGann. He was a direct descendent of the Pilgrims John & Priscilla Alden. He was an MIT Alumni where he served as the class agent since 1954 where he raised a record of over $25 million dollars as a member of the 50th reunion committee. He was awarded the Bronze Beaver Award which is the highest service award given by MIT. His work history included Vice President of Chase Bank, Allied Chemical, American Airlines, New York City Finance Administration. He also did long range planning for computer software for major U.S. Companies, and he taught computer science as an Adjunct Professor at three Universities. John taught disadvantaged children from Newark, NJ, and entertained many generations of adults and children with whistling many birdcalls of different species. He also enjoyed tennis and was a long distance jogger. He taught Sunday School at Union Congregational Church in Montclair, NJ for over 20 years. They have named the John A. McGann teaching excellence award after him. He was a member of the church since 1981. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Michael McGann and his wife Patricia of Long Island City, NY and a daughter Tara McGann. Sister Dorothy Telfer of Corman, NY and a brother Rich and his wife Barbara of Cutchogue, NY. Foster son Alexey Kuvshinov and his girl friend Lilly Baturina. Nieces and nephews and many members of the Union Congregational Church , many other friends and neighbors. Services will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 2:00 P.M., in the C. R.
