James Schantz Barnes, Sr.

James Schantz Barnes, Sr. 81, of Jim Thorpe formerly of Quakertown died December 2, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones, while under Hospice Care. He was the husband of Rosemarie (Spink) Barnes. They were married 48 years on July 3, 2012. Born in Allentown he was the son of the late Marian M. Schantz, and was raised by his grandparents the late Howard & Lizzy Schantz. He retired in 1992 after more than 30 years of service from Bethlehem Steel as a welder for PB & NE RR. James was an avid sailor, gardener, and enjoyed woodworking. He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Sellersville. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Deborah Hickey (Sam) of Allentown, Steven J. Barnes (Teresa) of Bethlehem, Diana Woods (Ian) of Tulsa, OK, Danny Gaugler of Charlotte, NC, Jeffrey S. Barnes of Westminster, CO, Belinda Hartman of Quakertown, and James, Jr. (Angela) of Bedminster, NJ. Fifteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. He was also survived by a cousin Kenneth Jurs (Joanne) of Marlborough, CT, and his beloved dog Nina. Services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the C. R.
