HOPKINSON - James P., Jr. Our brother, Jamie, passed away on May 22, 2013 at the age of 63 at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania after a 3 1/2 months struggle with leukemia. He accepted the inevitable and found peace surrounded by his sisters, Sarah and Maryann, and his niece, Holly. He is also survived by his loving brother, David, 1 nephew, 2 other nieces, 1 step-niece, and their 5 children. He was predeceased by his father, James P., and his mother, C. Evelyn (nee Wilkinson). He was a fourth great-grandson of Francis Hopkinson, signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was a graduate of William Penn Charter School and Lehigh University. He taught chemistry at the American School in Great Yarmouth, U.K. and Valley Forge Military Academy (VFMA). While at VFMA, he became an avid pilot. He was an accomplished pianist. In 1970, Jamie founded a gay rights organization at Lehigh and organized the first Gay Pride Day parade there. Until the end, Jamie maintained his intense interest in fine cooking, his love of his cats, and keeping contact with his closest friends. He would encourage contributions in his memory to ASPCA, PASPCA, or Stray Cat Blues. Service Information A service summary is not available
