James J. Sands, Jr., 81 of Quakertown formerly of Philadelphia died Friday August 12, 2011 in St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Evelyn K. (Cantwell) Sands. Born in Philadelphia he was the son of the late James J., Sr. and Marion (Lindvall) Sands He was a fireman, conductor and engineer for the Reading Railroad in Philadelphia before his retirement. James was of the catholic faith and a former member of St. Edwards Parish, Philadelphia and St. Williams Catholic Church, Lawndale. He was also a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by a son James J., III (Diane L.) of Quakertown and a daughter Patricia L. Zollo (Joseph) of Lansdale. A brother Vincent (Gloria) and three sisters Doris Schultes, Janet Kennedy and Sister Marilyn Sands. Seven grandchildren, Kelly, Joseph, James, Patrick, Nicole, Michael and Stephanie. Ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister in law Mildred Merkel. A mass will be held on Wednesday August 17, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Isidore's Catholic Church 2545 W. Pumping Station Rd.
