Obituary Harry F. Hashagen of Coopersburg, Pa passed away on Tuesday evening, September 10, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was 95 years old. Harry was born on the family farm in Drums, Pa on February 25, 1924 to the late Frederick (Fred) W and Lizzie E (Moyer) Hashagen of Freedom Road along the Little Nescopeck Creek. He was the 7th of 8 children. Harry was a World War II veteran who served in the United States Army under the 103rd Infantry Division: 2nd Battalion 410th Infantry. He was among the first graduating class from Williamsport Technical Institute, now known as Pennsylvania College of Technology where he earned a diploma in Diesel Mechanics. In his early years he worked at Rohm and Haas in Bristol, Pa alongside of his brother George. After that, he spent the next 33 years at the Bethlehem Steel Corp in Bethlehem, Pa working in the MERF as a Diesel Mechanic, later taking on a supervisory position, before retiring in 1984. Harry enjoyed many things, hunting, fishing, gardening, working on cars and diesels, refinishing old furniture, fixing old lawn mowers and blowers, etc. but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. From the early days of Saturday night Pinochle cards games with 5 cent beers and penny pretzels to later RVing across the country to the Grand Old Opry and Nevada with their neighbor and good friends, Erma and Charlie Diehl. Harry, and his wife Ruth, served as past volunteers at the Leithsville Volunteer Fire Company and were longtime members of the Springfield Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Pleasant Valley. Harry was also a past member of the Springtown Rod and Gun club as well as the Silver Creek Social club and supported all the local Fire Companies. Preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings (Olga Horn, Ruth Halterman, Verna Kennedy, Paul, Vida Mensinger, George and Roberta Michael), grandson Grant, and his loving wife, Ruth (Shaver-Yannes) of 52 years. Surviving family members: Children- William (Bill) of Hellertown, Diana (and Kenneth) Fluck of Trumbauersville, Fred (and Sue) of Springtown, Harry of Riegelsville/Coopersburg, Dawn (and Kenneth) Michener of Coopersburg; 12 grandchildren Billy, Kyle, Michael, Michelle, Adam, Alex, Andy, Natalie, Harry III, Zachary, McKayla, and Pat, and 12 great grandchildren Billy, Megan, Michael, Haley, Kali, Abby, Mia, Jordan, Paxton, Cora, Ellie, and Canaan, and brother-in-law Fred Michaels of Bristol, Pa. along with many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his celebration of life on Monday, September 16 from 9:00 11:00 am to be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (Pleasant Valley) 2170 Route 212 Coopersburg, PA 18036 followed by a service at 11:00 A.M. Interment immediately following the service. Arrangements are in the care of the C. R. Strunk Funeral Home, Inc. (www.crstrunk.com) Quakertown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church at the above address or a local Volunteer Fire Company.
