George Cherrybon, 84 of Quakertown formerly of Port Clinton, Schuylkill County died Saturday April 16, 2011 in Valley Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coopersburg. He was the husband of Marianne E. (Kauffman) Cherrybon. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last July. Born in Branchdale, PA he was the son of the late John and Anna (Sabadish) Cherrybon. He was a Supervisor for the former Garden State Tanning in Fleetwood, retiring in 1988. George was an avid sports fan enjoying all sports. He played semi professional basketball for the Orwigsburg Jets and was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. He coached Little League Baseball in Port Clinton for many years and enjoyed attending high school sporting events. He was a former councilman in Port Clinton and a former board member of the Schuylkill Haven School District. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. George was also a member of St. Isidores Catholic Church in Quakertown. In addition to his wife he is survived two sons Stephen A. and his wife Cynthia of Quakertown and Richard D. and his wife Christina of Norristown. Two grandchildren Michael and his wife Diana and Christy both of Quakertown and a great grandchild Savannah. He is also survived by a sister in law Catherine Cherrybon of Pottsville. He was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters. A mass will be held on Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Isidores Catholic Church, 2545 W. Pumping Station Rd. Quakertown PA 18951.
