Doris D. Conrad, 93, died Friday, March 28, at St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Before residing at LifeQuest Nursing Home, she lived in Hilltown Township, Bucks County. Born in Kulpmont, PA, Aug. 31, 1920, she was the daughter of Emma Haubenstein Custer and the stepdaughter of Bruce Custer, with whom she resided in Philadelphia where she met and married Kenneth G. Conrad Sr., currently living at Quakertown Center. She died on her husband's 95th birthday. Doris worked as a waitress in Philadelphia until becoming a homemaker after the births of her three children. In 1961, the family moved to Hilltown where she worked for The Intelligencer as a rural newspaper route carrier for almost 40 years.. She is the mother of Barbara Conrad Reboratti [Eduardo] of Milford Township, Allen W. Conrad, Hilltown and Kenneth Conrad Jr. [Mary Christine], Lansdale. She is the grandmother of Ashley Reboratti, Elliot Reboratti, Kevin, Jeffrey, Michael, Angela and Peter Conrad as well as Tina, David and Kenneth G. Conrad III. She was pre-deceased by her granddaughter, Allison K. Reboratti, in 2001 and granddaughter Ashleys husband, Marine Corps. Sgt. Christopher S. Thomas in 2008. She has 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Doris is survived by her sister, Berniece Woodruff, New Providence, NJ. Her brother, William Davis and sister, Mary Jane Lear, preceded her in death. As a bereaved grandmother, Doris was a devoted member and participant of the Quakertown Chapter of The Compassionate Friends, a nationally renown non-profit for bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings. Contributions can be made in her name to: The Compassionate Friends, Quakertown Chapter, PO BOX 1013, Quakertown, PA 18951. Services will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 7:30 P.M. in the C. R. Strunk Funeral Home, Inc. (www.crstrunk.com) 821 W. Broad St. Quakertown, PA 18951. Calling hours will be held from 6:00-7:30 P.M. in the funeral home.
