Donald E. Young, 87, of Quakertown formerly of Catasauqua died March 15, 2017 at Hidden Meadows on the Ridge, Sellersville. He was the husband of Harriet (Dietz) Young. They were married 61 years last November. Born in Catasauqua, PA he was the son of the late Earl M. & Ethel R. (Raubenhold) Young. Before his retirement he was a physical education and health teacher at Quakertown Community High School, where he also was a former basketball and football coach. Don was a 1947 graduate of Catasauqua High School and a 1951 graduate of Ursinus College where he continued his education earning a Masters Degree in 1952. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Quakertown and the Quakertown Lions Club. Don was well known for his athletic achievements and was awarded many awards and inductions to many Hall of Fames which included, The Maxwell Award in 1948, The Philadelphia Basketball Writers Award in 1951, The Ursinus College Hall of Fame in 1974, Catasauqua Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Quakertown High School Hall of Fame in 2007. Don also served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons Douglas D. (April) of Federalsburg, MD, David P. (Kimberly) of Belleville, IL and a daughter Dona Nyahay (Robert) of Limerick, PA. Six grandchildren Jonathan Fretz (Autumn), Amanda Heinz (Jeff), Daniel Young (Rebecca), Dana Kile (David), Diana Hahn (Derek) and Morgon Young. Two great grandchildren Katelyn & Devin Young and one great grandchild due in August. He was predeceased by a brother Jay Young. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
