Ada V. Bleam

June 21, 1908 — March 19, 2017

Ada V. Bleam, age 108, of Macungie, PA, formerly of California Road, Quakertown, died on March 19, 2017 at the Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown. She was married for 62 years to Samuel N. Bleam, deceased in 1998. Both were long-time members of East Swamp Mennonite Church, Quakertown. Ada, born June 21, 1908, was the daughter of Earl Hixson and Florence Shelly Hixson, all of Quakertown. Ada worked in a hosiery mill, was a homemaker, and an advocate of education. She enabled her four children to go to university and all of them were teachers at some point of their lives. Family was all important to her, and she welcomed extended family members into her home whenever the need arose. She lived simply, but gave generously to community charities. The Quakertown farm where she lived most of her life was claimed by Bucks County for a library and soccer playing fields for community use, and it gave her pleasure to know that children benefitted. A determined, independent, but gentle woman, Ada was shaped by the Great Depression and the values of her Mennonite faith. She volunteered many years at the Care and Share Shops, Souderton, and often worked with Richland Township elections. She insisted on having her own car, which she drove without accident for 75 years. She is survived by two daughters: Marjorie Geissinger (Russell deceased), Mary Lou (Robert Cummings), and two sons: James (Diane Luginbuhl) and Richard (Lou Anderson). Her only sister Mildred (Moll/Arn) is deceased. Grandchildren include Tonia Bleam, Margaret Sabulsky, Rebekah Flack, Jennifer Anderson, Chris Cummings, Lisen Cummings, Brian Bleam, Kevin Bleam, and Jacob Bleam (deceased). There are 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. at Quakertown Christian School 50 E. Paletown Rd. Quakertown, PA 18951. Calling hours will be held from 3:00-4:00 P.M. at Quakertown Christian School.
